2010 Brit Awards red carpet

Lady Gaga has just arrived on the red carpet at the Brit Music Awards. Again, she did not disappoint wearing 3 layers of white ruffled fabric. The towering look complete with huge white messy beehive and lace eye mask. She is set to perform later and pay tribute to fashion legend Alexander McQueen.

2010 Grammy Awards fashions

Grammy’s are the perfect time for celebs to make a statement on the red carpet, and this year the stars rocked the red rug. Unlike the Globes, SAG’s and BAFTA’s – the Grammy’s are a bit more casual, sometimes wild and unpredictable. Lets get stuck straight into the best and worst dressed.

Lady Gaga was dressed in Armani Prive all night. The Italian designer label custom made her a few options to change throughout the night. Her arrival outfit was a crazy ‘solar system’ inspired dress, with wire that twisted around her from head to toe. In her hand she carried a pointy wire sphere. It was more than couture, it was art. Her shoes were ‘interesting’ but that suited the outrageous outfit. These are her arrival shoes:

and her arrival outfit…

Beyonce – Va-va-vooommm!! in a cream Stefan Roland dress. Gorgeous capped sleeves with mermaid bottom. Perfect shape dress for her bootylicious body. Dress has intricate contour lines and embroidered geometric patterns.

Snooki (from new reality show ‘Jersey Shores’) – wore a slinky tight purple mini dress that emphasised her chunky curves. She accesorised with a cheap tandoori tan, and (quite possibly) a fake LV handbag. Overall a cheap n’ trashy look, but I guess it’s what she is now famous for. Sad but true.

Tayor Swift – up for 8 Grammy Awards sparkled in a deep blue off the shoulder sequin dress (Dolce I think). I love the neckline and the back of the dress. Hair and makeup looked great as always, youthful, fresh and girly.

Rihanna – in a white Ellie Saab dress looked delicious. White was the perfect choice for her, I love the exaggerated shoulder line and the feathers on the front of the dress. I would have prefered to seen a ‘softer’ hair style, but her hair is her thing, so shaved side with quiff it is.

Nicole Kidman – towered above her hubby in a black Prada halter neck dress and wore her red locks up. Simple and elegant.

Katy Perry – in a flesh toned Zac Posen dress with metallic embellishments. Her look was inspired by India and even carried a small jewelled elephant. On her arm was her comedian finance, who was showing more cleavage than she was. She looked better last year in that pink gown.

Adam Lambert – sparkled in a black sequins tuxedo jacket, white shirt and black ribbon bow-tie. Not a look many can pull off but he can.

Pink – looking glam in a  long silver strapless dress, with gemstone trim. The dress has a ‘tie-die’ effect, darker at the bottom of the dress. Stunning silver jewels and clutch. Nice work girl.

Usher – beige 3 piece suit with check shirt, pokka dot tie and aviator sunglasses. Way too cool for school

Jennifer Hudson – back from recently having a baby, looked hot in a Victoria Beckham black jacket with exaggerated shoulder line. Teamed with a blunt fringe and high pony tail. Sexy. 10/10 for dressing for her body shape.

The Jonas brothers – I can’t name any of their songs, but they always look good. 3 totally different looks for the brothers, but all on trend for diverse reasons. Go fellas!

Keep popping back, as this blog page will be updated as the red carpet happens live. MORE IMAGES COMING SOON!

2010 Golden Globes red carpet fashions wrap.

The stars have just swam down the rain drenched red carpet, many of them freaking out “I’ll have to pay for this dress now, that I have got it wet” – oops!  Thanks to the wet carpet, many dresses had that “tie-die” look (darker along the bottom edge) and the umbrella was the must have accessory.

Overall the trends are a continuation of what we have already seen: sequins, one shouldered gowns, ruffles, nude tones, mermaid style gowns, flesh tones, white and black. Purples in various shades was popular with Leona Lewis, Rose Byrne, Fergie, Sandra Bullock, Diane Krugar and Jane Krkowski.

For the boys – it was all about the bowtie, pocket handkerchiefs and well cut, one button sharp dinner suits. The (hair) part is also back – all these trends, are a nod to the popular show ‘Mad Men’.

So who looked the best?

My best dressed list:

  • Diane Kruger – in a stunning fuscia gown with beautiful pleated detail. Pretty.
  • Zoe Saldana (from Avatar) – looked out of this world in a deep red mermaid gown with ruffles. Graceful.
  • Jennifer Garner – wore a fitted Versace gown with sexy back detail that showcased her amazingly fit body. Slinky.
  • Toni Collette – dazzled in a beaded gold long gown, doing the Aussies proud.(Ellie Saab in fact – thanks to Ms Hoyer for that fact). Sparkly.
  • Emily Blunt – a blush toned Dolce and Gabbana, mermaid gown with  ruffles, sporting a casual parted hair style. Casual Chic.
  • Jennifer Aniston – a simple back one shouldered dress with thigh high side split and her trademark sexy hair. Vava-voom!
  • Cameron Diaz – went for a red Alexander McQueen dress with exaggerated shoudlers. She pulled it off as she always does. Perfection.

Marion Cotillard – in a black one shouldered Christian Dior. Classy. In my top 5 best dressed.

Marion Cotillard

Kate Hudson – in a white Marchesa dress with ‘origami style pleating’ detail. She also makes my top 5 best dressed.

Kate Hudson

Drew Barrymore – ahhmazing in a pale pink Atelier Versace gown, her hair and makeup so simple, yet so effective. She took home my best dressed lady for the evening. She also took home a gold statue for Grey Gardens.

Drew Barrymore

Penelope Cruz – wore a stunning black lace Giorgio Armani Prive gown. A bombshell as usual. Yep – also in my top 5.

Penelope Cruz

January Jones – wore a black ruffled Lanvin dress, and I love her black headband. Her bold red lips look fab against the head to toe black. Modern and edgy.

January Jones

Heather Graham – in a black sequined Ellie Saab gown. Glitzy.

Heather Graham

Maggie Gyllenhaal – in a pink Roland Mouret mermaid gown. Hair, makeup and dress all perfect. You go girl!

Maggie Gyllenhaal

Best dressed Men –

  • Tom Ford – well no doubt wearing Tom Ford. Perfection. I loved his floral buttonhole.
  • Chace Crawford – wore a Dolce and Gabbana Tux with pocket hankerchief.
  • Taylor Lautner – bowtie + tux = dapper.com
  • Ryan Kwanten – handsome in a Hugo Boss tux and bow-tie. He just needed a good comb.
  • Gerard Butler – in a classic tux with bow-tie.
  • Alexander Skarsgard (from True Blood) – wowed the red carpet in his Tom Ford peak lapel tux.

 Worst dressed:

  • Chloe Sevigny – this usually spot on star, drowned in Valentino ruffles. The kinda dress you will love or hate. Sorry – I hate it, it does no justice to her body shape. Ladies please note excessive fabric can make you look bigger than you really are!

Chloe Sevigny

  • Mariah Carey – Herve Leger black dress with low V neckline, showing off her own Golden Globes 🙂 🙂 We hear Brynne Gordon wants to borrow your dress.

Mariah Carey

  • Mickey Rourke – turned up with a Cowboy hat and faux-Aligator leather lapels. Not Good.
  • Sandra Bullock – looked like a bad 80’s bridesmaid in a sheer purple full skirt.
  • Tina Fey – usually looks nice, but chose a strange length full gown, in a white and black stripe. Notflattering.com.

Tina Fey

More details and pics to come. I would love to know who you thought looked good and bad – please leave you’re comments!!

The 2009 Academy Awards red carpet fashion wrap

Blogging LIVE from the ‘E – Live from the red carpet Academy Awards Party’ .

I’m all settled in my spot at The Zeta Bar (Hilton), the venue is uber chic.  The fabulous event is being made possible thanks to E! (Entertainment Television). They will be broadcasting live from Tinseltown. This year they have ‘Stiletto-cam’ and ‘Star-tracker’, to provide us with the best Oscar vision possible.

Before I begin blogging , please let me preface it by saying – I am a designer, milliner and stylist. I am not a professional writer, nor a journalist. So don’t be expecting a literary masterpiece, and please ignore any bad grammar- especially since the first thing in my hand when I arrived was a champagne.

Red carpet here we come ….

The weather looks sunny today, so good news for celebs.

The event is about to kick off, Kathryn Eisman is on stage and about to intro Charlotte Dawson, who looks stunning in a lavender Alex Perry frock. WOW!!!

katheryn-eisman-charlotte-dawson-1006_sml

I’m with the lovely Bianca Dye, who was lucky enough to hold a real Oscar statue. The statue was won in 1942, for best documentary.  (Check out her video from the event).

The vibe in here is building up, the stars are arriving such as celebrity hairdresser Joh Bailey, Adam Williams (So you think you can dance), Nick Cerrone, Toni Pearen, Jacinta Tynan, Swedish singer Amelia De Poret, Laura Csortan, Samantha Brett, James Tobin, Alicia Malone … and many more. This is certainly the place to be!!!

The stunning Charlotte Dawson is now on stage, with Joh Baily. They are talking about ‘hair’ Oscar moments. Joh Bailey declared “hair can never be too big”.

The red carpet is about to kick off, the Internet connection is really slow – so my apologies.

First up is Miley Cyrus, in a heavily sequined dress.  It looks really heavy and not very age appropriate. Her hair looks nice though!  I much preferred the Marchesa gown she wore to the Globes.

849760101

Dominic Cooper (Mumma Mia)  looks sharp – wearing a Bow-tie! as I predicted will be a hot trend, he looks sharp. Who else will embrace this trend?

84976196

Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire) is coming up the catwalk (oops I mean red carpet), as predicted he too is looking very chic….sporting a…..bow-tie.  And Freida Pintoin a John Galliano blue jewel dress, with one lace sleeve. Love it!! she looks stunning. The dress has an ‘Indian Shari’ feel to it. Such a vibrant colour, she really stands out.

84977146

Taraji P Henson (Curious Case of Benjamin Button) looks exquisite in a strapless ivory gown. Lots of bling here! The red clutch bag is a bit random? guess she wanted to match the red carpet.

84976955

Heidi Klum in a red one shoulder dress red, hmmm not a fan of the dress- but her jewels are amazing. She must of been running late, and forgot to dry her hair after she showered. Her hubby Seal, looks very handsome, in a classic 2 button peak collar tuxedo.

84976827

Melissa George– is flying the Aussie flag in a white Dolce & Gabbana fishtail corset style dress. The fishtail is a bit too poofy, reminds me of something that Barbie would wear.

84976783

Amy Adams– a  red head in a red gown, nice!! She is  has some serious bling to boot. Really proving that simple is stunning!

84976854

Anne Hathaway– she has just arrived on the red carpet. What a stunner!! She is wearing an Armani Prive white strapless dress, with metallic undertones. Her hair is pulled back, simple and chic. Hang on … as I get a closer look at her dress, it is actually made of small white discs (bit like fish scales). I love it even more now!! she is definitely on my best dressed gals list!

84976883

Sarah Jessica Parker– I heart the dress, its a full ballgown. Its Dior Haute couture. She is channeling her inner Grace Kelly. It has an amazing belt detail on the front.  Not too fussed about her hair….  she should have pulled it back in a chic chignon bun.

84976673

Marissa Tomei– her body is in top shape (thanks to all the poll dancing she did for The Wrestler), her dress is stunning. Yet another one shoulder gown, that flows into extremely intricate pleats. Her side swept casual hair is perfect!

84976822

Mickey Rourke– I love that he has his own sense of style. A great off white suit, black best, cool specs, pocket chains… not to mention having a cheeky cigarette as he struts up the red carpet. Go Mickey your so fine, Mickey you just blow my mind … go Mickey!!

84976834

WOW!!!!! I JUST WON BEST DRESSED MALE at the event!!!I won a Blackberry Curve!!! and Optus Broadband Internet. I am speechless.

atmosphere-best-dressed-winners-_sml

Best dressed female went to Livia, wearing a stunning sexy short Manning Cartel dress. She is going home with a Gucci watch and Blackberry Curve.

To quote ‘Rachel Zoe’…. I DIE! Bananas!! I  just got a glimpse of Kate Winsletand she looks stunning!! She is wearing a steel grey dress, with a lace panel. Dress is ‘Atelier Yves Saint Laurent’ by Stefano Pilati. In keeping with today’s biggest trend, the dress is one shouldered. Her hair is up, in a quiff style bun. Her bling is spot on and the makeup is flawless. Add her to my best dressed list!

84977137

Penelope Cruz – this sexy Spaniard has chosen an off white strapless dress with a full skirt. I think she could have pulled off a more sexy look. She is sporting a thick black fringe and is channeling her inner Audrey Hepburn.

84976917

Who let these high school kids onto the red carpet? hmmm. Zac Efron does look smart with his slick hair, slim bow-tie and one button peak lapel tuxedo.  His lady Vanessa Hudgens, has a long black dress – it looks like she has random white tissues stuck to her dress.

849769331

Brangelina – this power couple, stick to classic black and quite simply look hot. Brad looks great – in wow!! another bow-tie, love the black buttons on his white shirt – classic and chic. Angelina is getting a bit predictable, wearing black again. She has chosen a classic strapless flowing black dress.  I love her green emerald earrings!

849769051

Evan Rachel Wood – She looks like a picture perfect mannequin, her skin and hair is flawless. The cream dress just screams sensational siren!! I love the intricate pleating and draping. Even if she doesn’t win an Oscar, she has already won in the fashion stakes.

849777891

Natalie Portman – finally someone is wearing an eye popping colour!! She looks delicious in this vibrant pink dress. Elegant, chic, classic! we love!!!

849776051

Beyonce– proving why she is the Bootylicious babe! Graphic prints are huge on the catwalks, so Brave Beyonce has chosen this gold bold print on black. The clever paneling on the dress, is extremely flattering on her.

849775941

John Legend– one of the best dressed males today. I love hie slim black tie and tie pin. The 2 button tuxedo suit is such a brilliant cut. Also nicely accesorised with the pocket handkerchief. What a legend!!

849778231

The red carpet coverage is about to come to an end and the Piper champagne is being packed away as this event at Zeta Bar is coming to a close. Overall a great event, I met some really lovely people. Everyone looked so glam (especially for an early Monday morning). I am pretty thrilled with my win today, and for predicting the hot red carpet trends.

Hope you enjoyed the coverage. Thanks E! – the footage was brilliant this year. I loved the ‘star-tracker’ 🙂 Until next time, take care and keep styling!

Cheers,

Donny

Grammy’s fashion wrap

Lets cut straight to the chase. The stars that stood out on the red caret include (see pics below):

  • Katy Perry – (yeah the one who kissed a girl blah blah) – she wore a strapless pink dress from a young Lebanese designer called Basil Soda. It’s a little Dita Von Teese, but I love it!
  • Kate Beckinsale – stunning black fishtail gown, flying the flag for the Poms!
  • Jennifer Hudson – perfect for her body shape and the trend is so hot right now.
  • Simon Baker – was flying the Aussie flag high in his smart suit and black tie.
  • Ne-Yo – looked chic in a black cravat scarf, under a white shirt and topped off with a black trilby hat.
  • Estelle – had all the ‘American Boys’ looking at her in a short sexy silver mod dress.

..and then there were those that needed to look at themself in a mirror before they left home, such as …

  • Paula Abdul – she wore a yellow dress by Basil Soda, with some weird gold mosaic tile looking thing happening over one shoulder, definitely not a fashion Idol!
  • MIA – she may of been ready to give birth, but our eyes were not ready to witness her crime against fashion.
  • Natalie Cole – she literally had gold chains hanging off her dress, maybe she stole it off the rack and decided to keep the security chains on it.
  • John Mayer – looked like a priest in his black suit, someone give him his penance.
  • P.Diddy – someone call the police, Mr Diddy has lost his sense of style!
  • Bing Lee – is well known for dressing agaist the dress code, I think she stole this outfit from Barbie circa 1988.

Bring on the Oscars!! I will be blogging live from the E Red carpet event @ The Hilton.
